How Is a Buddhist Funeral Conducted?

Buddhists are not opposed to incorporating some of the local area's burial customs and traditions. Indeed, some Buddhists may accept and incorporate indigenous culture into their Buddhist practices. What is Private Grave Exhumation?

  Exhumation is the process of unearthing a buried body.  When a deceased person is buried in Singapore, the location is not permanent, and the Burial Policy limits the burial period to 15 years to combat land scarcity. Private grave exhumation requires an application to the NEA for a permit to exhume on a specific date.  After the permit has been approved, the applicant can begin the exhumation process. Let's say the deadline for exhumation is January 1st. On December 31st (one night before the exhumation date), the applicant and family members will first gather at the graveyard at around 10 p.m. to offer their prayers to the deceased. After that, at around 11 p.m., the family members will witness the groundbreaking ceremony.  They can stay at the site or return home to rest while the workers and undertakers continue to dig the grave.
