Are you affected by the Niche Relocation in Singapore?

Image
Many people have been adversely affected by the ongoing grave exhumation, and niche relocation programme in Singapore, which is now taking place in Mount Vernon and Choa Chu Kang cemeteries, among other sites. Grave exhumation, or niche relocation, is the procedure of relocating or transferring the remains of one's ancestors/family members after they have been buried for many years or even months.  The desire to exhume or relocate the remains of a loved one can arise for a variety of circumstances, with the Mount Vernon and Tengah Airbase instances serving as just a couple of examples. It is planned to demolish Mount Vernon Columbarium (also known as MVC) in order to make way for the development of the Bidadari Estate. At the same time, a large chunk of the Choa Chu Kang cemetery is being unearthed in order to make way for a larger Tengah Airbase. According to official figures, the Tengah Airbase expansion has impacted more than 800,000 graves.   Suppose the final rest...

How Is a Buddhist Funeral Conducted?

Image
Buddhists are not opposed to incorporating some of the local area's burial customs and traditions. Indeed, some Buddhists may accept and incorporate indigenous culture into their Buddhist practices. By contrast, Buddhist funeral customs differ according to the deceased's ethnic and cultural background.   Buddhism originated in ancient India and is based on Siddhartha Gautama's, or Buddha's, teachings. As Buddhism developed, several movements and schools of thought influenced the practice. Since its inception, Buddhism has spread throughout Central, East, and Southeast Asia. Today, there are three major Buddhist lineages practiced worldwide. Regardless of the Buddhist tradition, ethnic origin, or culture, all Buddhists adhere to a common basic set of beliefs. Because death is a normal part of existence, Buddhists believe that elaborate procedures and ceremonies to mark the end of life are unnecessary. Numerous Buddhists believe that the funds spent on these services ...

What is Private Grave Exhumation?

Image
Exhumation is the process of unearthing a buried body.  When a deceased person is buried in Singapore, the location is not permanent, and the Burial Policy limits the burial period to 15 years to combat land scarcity. Private grave exhumation requires an application to the NEA for a permit to exhume on a specific date.  After the permit has been approved, the applicant can begin the exhumation process. Let's say the deadline for exhumation is January 1st. On December 31st (one night before the exhumation date), the applicant and family members will first gather at the graveyard at around 10 p.m. to offer their prayers to the deceased. After that, at around 11 p.m., the family members will witness the groundbreaking ceremony.  They can stay at the site or return home to rest while the workers and undertakers continue to dig the grave. Depending on the nature of the ground, terrain, soil, and other factors, the digging process can take 3 to 5 hours.   The...

Qualities of a Conveniently Well Designed Columbarium

Image
  ●      Facilities offered ●      Location of Niches ●      Size of Niches ●      Time of Purchase ●      Choices of Niches   The columbarium should be designed to make children and adults feel comfortable so that when the children want to visit their grandparent's niche, they can visit and spend time with them. A columbarium should be space effective, which means a group of the whole family, friends, and relatives can fit in easily and comfortably to worship and interact during visits. An air-Conditioned columbarium is a must to have a comfortable visit during any season of the year. After the cremation, some people prefer to place the urns at eye level or on a higher level. A good columbarium should be able to offer any choice their clients want, to make it easier for the visitors. Feng shui elements that balance yin and yang in a columbarium are necessary. ...
